question for construction guys

Do these flimsy slats do anything? Or are they something used during construction to help balance the joists?

Can I remove one or two without asking for trouble?

They help prevent the joists from twisting.

Your house will not fall down if you remove one or two of them.

Glad to replace them, just wasn't sure what they even did.

Without fail, everyone I go through my floor, I wind up right about those slats. PITA.

If you're real motivated after you take one out you can just move it to the side and out of the way of the piping.

Or just leave it out......

cross bridging. I would just move them one way or the other if they're in the way.

When the joist is loaded, anything but a perfectly vertical joist will tend to twist. The bridging keeps the joists vertical.

And I'll add that when you install the bridging, you don't want the 2 pieces to touch to eliminate the chances of an annoying squeak. We haven't used bridging in a long time since the inception of TJI's.

You can see some were removed where your hvac duct runs. If you are worried about removing it you can relocate it somewhere else.
