Question for reef angelfish keepers

So I've had the tank really up for about 2 weeks and my first additions were a potters and a flame angel. So far I've had all the coral in for about a week, clam, acan, brain favia, scyol and some sps and gsp. So far the flame hasn't even nipped at anything and the potter has only nipped at the clam but I see no damage.

My question is it's been such a short period of time have any others had the same thing and then in month when more settled they start going after corals or is it more likely they'll stay away. I know to keep watching and see what happen just curious of what others have had happen

With your tank only being set up for 2 weeks, I am guessing that you don't have a lot of mature live rock in there -- which, IMO/E, is the key for dwarf angels, gives them something to pick at all day long. While I have had good luck with both those angels, I would be concerned that yours might start picking at the corals soon -- if there isn't any mature rock.

I agree with Todd. Angels need good mature live rock. Your corals will most likely be a target very soon

Of course the other danger is that they starve to death. I would never suggest adding any angel to an immature tank.

+1 I think all source material should include this info. I'm old enough to remember when LR first became common and hobbyists realized the real improvement in Angel success. IMO & IME: this is especially true for dwarfs & Juvis, but applies to all angels. BTW: even with plenty of mature LR, dwarf angels and reefs are still 50-50 at best. A real "individual fish thing."

Copps had a nice write up about angels in reef tanks yesterday in this forum. Big Dog looks like hes had this forum account for a while and multiple reefs so lets give him the benefit of the doubt on starting with some nice mature rock. Although 2 weeks is pretty soon to have fish in my mind.

ok i should rephrase....the rock.....about 100lbs is been live for years.....taken from and old tank....60 lbs was dry from brs....35 lbs just came out of my solana when i transfered what i had...they tank has been cycling since beg to mid nov.....so i say 2 weeks meaning....2 weeks since i bought the fish....CUC been in for about 4 weeks....transfered what i had in the solana on sun night....ha otherwise YES i totally agree with everything said and i know at that, starting with the angels may be risky still but they are all eating and the potter started eating the next day...pellets, form 2, nori and mysis was so surprised!!!
