They just want to protect you. :headwally:

That would help (but not cure) flukes or velvet. Ironically in some foreign countries that I have been to, much is available without prescription. Ironic, huh?

ok i might * have a way to get formalin by friday... MIGHT

you think its to late at this point? i guess i wont do the FW dip

he is still eating

Yes! I would do the dip first; however, replacing the fish in the same tank will reinfect so perhaps the treatment protocol is preferred.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!

now i haven't had much sleep and i would really need some help dosing this.

Chemical Treatments - Formalin

While formalin is toxic, carcinogenic and an irritant, it is, however, one of the best treatments for Brooklynella hostilis and Uronema marinum. It can be purchased readily from your chemist and some off-the-shelf cures contain it or a related chemical (paraformaldehyde or gluteraldehyde) so a read of the labels or data sheets of some products is essential if you want to use it.

The best way to use this chemical for Brooklynella hostilis and Uronema marinum is as a formalin dip followed by a long term formalin bath (see environmental treatments).

To use it as a short dip in seawater, make up a bath in seawater at 200 to 250ppm for 1 hour. The dip component of this treatment regime should be carried out on days 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 & 11 after each dip the fish should be returned to a quarantine tank to which formalin has been added (see below).

For the long term bath component of this treatment, add 25ppm of formalin to your quarantine tank (it’s toxic to some invertebrates and algae, including most coralline algae species, so cannot be used in a reef situation)

Remember liquid formalin (which is how you will get it from the chemists) is 37 to 40% formaldehyde and you want 25ppm so you need to add 0.0625ml formalin per liter rather than 0.02ml to get the correct dose.

As this chemical is very toxic it is recommend that appropriate protective clothing is worn such as gloves and safety glasses and use it in a well ventilated place.

here is the problem, they only had a 37ml bottle

My QT is 40 gallons. for the long term bath how many ML should i add for the long term bath?

also what is the recommended wc schedule for the qt

as for the dip i will be using a small glass topperware, i am a little confused as to the amount i need (drips or ml) for let say a 1 gallon bowl

ok so here is what i came up with

long term bath
40gallon = 150l
150l x .0625 = 9ml
question is how many WC do i need to do? since i only have 37ml to work with, so depending on the WC schedule i might need to drop the 40g to 25-30 gallons of water.

for the dip
1 gallon .625 ml day 1 2 3 5 7 & 11

First of all, you can save the dip water and reuse. (you could not get more than one bottle?) If you do a water change make sure the added water is appropriately dosed. No carbon, no UV.

no they only had one bottle! after driving that long i would of bought a gallons worth if they had it!

i had no idea you could save the dripped water, in that case i will use a empty Instant ocean barrel (the cover seals well) and will use it for the 11 days of dipping!

should i dip the blond naso that is showing no signs, or will the 25ppm qt bath be enough for him?

as for water changes, i guess i will do the full 40 gallons and feed less, hopefully i could do a 50% every 5 days, do ammonia badges work with formalin?

The bath should be sufficient. Remember, however, that added water must have formalin at the bath concentration.
