Question for Snorvich

sorry quick question, just to make sure i understand this statement

i dip the fish for a total of 1 hour per dip?

"To use it as a short dip in seawater, make up a bath in seawater at 200 to 250ppm for 1 hour."

Right. Status?

so far so good, i am actually 33min in my second dip

i will post updated pictures of the hippo tonight

i think we can save him!

thank you!

in the bucket? i would mix it with a stick for one minute before introducing the fish, he does not look in distress or trying to breath on top, is that ok?

and my qt has a aqua clear with a waterfall and a powerful powerhead, i think thats ok?

Yes, in the bucket...especially since it is a small volume of water with a higher concentration of formalin. Like Steve mentioned above a fine bubbler/airstone would do the trick.

The QT should be fine.

at the end of the metro treatment i noticed some white dots (flared pores?) on my naso's face and side, after introducing the formalin bath it got a little worst today, kind of looks like hlle?

on a side note, the hippo is doing much better :)

well, lets say i am beyond upset right now, i decided to give them a sheet of nori that had some selcon on it..... BAD REACTION to formalin. water went cloudy after 2 hours, i noticed heavy breathing so i did a 50% WC and added some carbon and 2 air stones to try to take everything out of the water, 2 hours later i open the lights and it appears both tangs are blind....!!@@

i am doing a 90% wc now to see if i can save them

if not i am throwing in the towel at this point.

Wow, sorry to hear that. :( I've never heard of Selcon causing a reaction with formalin before. Why do you say the fish have gone blind?

It was either selcon, garlic guard, mysis or nori
Something had a really bad reaction and turned the water murky even after a 50% wc

Then I noticed the blue hippo trying to hide on its side anywhere in the tank and the naso banging into everything, I put the net in right in front of them with zero reaction.

I did an emergency 95% wc and they seem to have regained vision, however this is becoming a nasty experience that makes you want to just give up on everything, now I am terrified to add formalin to the qt...
And my naso is starting hlle I think, it was getting worst

Worst part. 3 week old twins crying all night in the middle of this fiasco!

I have no idea any more and can't even imagine ever putting them in my dt...

ok guys i need some help.

here is my problem, after almost loosing both of them yesterday to what seems to be a unknown problem thats is not common, i have to decide what to do

the blond is showing obvious signs of inflation and small holes in the head, it must have something to do with the copper metro and now formalin treatment, now that i did a 95% wc and running carbon they seem to be doing amazing, eating and vision seems to be 100% back

should i add the formalin bath to the qt at this point? the hippo has some 3 dips and will be doing his next one tomorrow (day 5) and the qt had 3 full days of 25ppm formalin?

i dont know what to do!

Place them in a fresh QT after at least one more dip with Formalin. Don't bother adding Formalin as a bath in the QT anymore. Just make sure everything is clean and sterile in the new QT. That way they can heal and be fed a little when they recover from the bath. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, would you consider my qt sterile after a 3 day .25ppm bath?

i don't have another qt to transfer them to, all i did is 95% wc and media change +carbon

i will continue the dip's for the hippo

I would get a plastic 20g container, mix and aerate saltwater for another container/QT. They are cheap at most hardware stores. W/o it being dry for 24 hours, not sure how sterile it would be. .25 ppm might just suppress and not eliminate, tough call.
