Question On Brooklynella Hostilis

Hi All - I had a clownfish in my main tank come down, and eventually die from, what I think was brooklynella hostilis. As soon as I thought he was sick, I moved him to a QT tank and started treating him....he died in the QT. My main question is do I need to leave the main tank fishless for 6-8 weeks like you have to do with ick, or does the parasite not live that long? Thanks.

if it was brook it will kill your other fish extremely quickly if they are infected. The only thing i have ever heard that is sometimes effective at treating brook is formalin treatments. Copper treatments do absolutely nothing as well as hypo. I do not know the exact life cycle of brook and if leaving the tank fishless is effective or not. If it is brook and you see other fish coming down with it, lowering the salinity in the QT tank will help with the fishes respiration, but not with the infection. Formalin is the only thing you can use that i know of.
