I'll state my goals- they are pretty clear and have been that way for years, and hense my founding the DC club.
1. Help hobbiests through education on good husbandry practices to not kill any animals through ignorance. Along with this is helping people see through so much of the BS out there. I have always been a proponent of bringing in nationally know experts, and have gotten to know quite a few on a personal level over the years.
2. Promote coral propagation and open exchange to help hobbiests be sucessful at keeping marine ornamentals and lessen the impact on the ocean. Way too much dies in the "chain" from ocean to store. Fish included. Also a group such as this can often provide homes to animals that someone can't care for anymore- and it is better that they go to people who somewhat know what they are doing.
3. Getting involved with youth to share knowledge about ocean environments and conservation issues.
4. Developing a network of like minded individuals- way too many reasons where this is beneficial. Having local connections for general discussions. It is way more fun exchanging thoughts and ideas with people you actually know.
5. Using the buying power of a group. If nothing else to save on shipping.
Anything that goes beyond that is icing on the cake to me.
