Question on lighting.

My new setup will have a single 150w halide bulb ( 28 gal cube ). I know that TBS rock is not too demanding in the lighting area, as the rock is from a pretty turbulent area. I guess I am looking for an acclimation schedule for this type of light. I feel that any critter will thrive as long as it has a chance to gradually adapt to the prevailing conditions. does anyone run halides with this rock? if so, how did you get it to acclimate? I intend to give it a pretty long run before I add any other corals, and only want to add fish that will benifit the tank, such as an alge eating blenny, 6 line wrasse, etc. My interests lie more with critters ( inverts ). Right now I am trying to gain as much info as I can with regards to tbs rock, and any insight is very appreciated. Also, has anyone set up a cube with this rock? I would really like to see pictures. Many say this rock is more boulder looking than most, and I am trying to get a feel for the aquascaping. Large pieces on the bottom? To any that answer, I appreciate the input. I know that Richard has many years behind him, and will try to send the best possible rock for my tank, but I would like to see some examples from customers. It kills me that I am not able to order just yet, But I know that " Good things come to he that waits ". From all I hear, TBS rock is worth waiting for.

It depends on the halide bulb, the ballast, and reflector, some have much higher PAR output than others. You could either raise the fixture off the water or use window screen(s) to cut the light also.

TBS rock comes in a wide variety of shapes and weights, some heavy, some light. They are definately not all boulder shaped, and the only issue with aquascaping is trying not to hide or cover up all the various life on the rocks.

Check out this thread for pictures and discussions about people's experience with TBS LR. The thread has split countless times over the years. I only went back to late 2005 so I have no idea when the thread actually started.

If that is not enough reading for ya', check out these threads:

You can find many more pages and threads with a quick Google search.

Hey CT~You can also just go down thru the posts here (there are only 2 pages I think) & get tons of different pics of lots of different tanks w/TBS packages. There is no question for me, after months of research (lol-I know-months, right?) that TBS rock will be in my tank.
My real issue is~I am interested in the same nano-cube, & I'm also pretty positive it's over-lighted for TBS rock. So I'm very interested to see how this turns out cuz that is a kick-@ss all-in-one.
(Why don't they offer it w/PC?...I could imagine getting run out of a different forum for *****ing about a MH:lol: )

Man, I have been looking at a lot of pic's today, and I have to say that this is sure amazing rock. Thanks for the tips, and advice everyone. When I finally get the 28 gal set up, I will post and let you know what I think. I hope it works as good as it looks. I might set up the MH light on a timer 1 hour on 1 hr off and see if I can acustom the rock to the higher light. I am not sure how this will affect the ballast tho. Something to think about anyway. Once again, Thanks everybody..................CT
