Have you lisetd the dimensions of your tank?
Assuming your 125 is the normal 6 feet you will want 3 bulbs. Each bulb will only cover a 2 ft by 2 ft square. I agree that 250's will be more than enough light for what you want to keep. 400's put out a lot more heat.
