No, the MJs stock are fine for a wavemaker. The problem comes when you start to mod them. The stock one has no directional stopper, and the way the magnetic motor works, it can spin the rotor one way or another, more or less randomly. That's why cutting off the directional spout is such a nice mod when you use MJs with wavemakers, because it randomly chooses one direction or the other (45 degrees from straight) to shoot out the water. The problem is when you start putting a prop on the other end of it. That is why it's so important to put the directional stop on the MJ mod when you do it, so it doesn't spin backwards on those restarts, because then it would be a huge vacuum on one side of the tank and might eat some fish and stuff. The prop causes stress from the torque like I said before, as well as on that stopper, constantly clinking back and forth every time it restarts in the wrong direction.
