question re:perfecto 46 gallon bow front

What purpose does the strip of plastic serve that divides the tank in half at the top of the tank? Mine cracked recently while cleaning the tank - should I be concerned?

Helps to brace the tank from water pressure. you can make one out of acrylic if you want, or buy a new rim w/brace. you should probably fix it when you get a chance.

Could I repair the damaged brace with Weld-On #16?

some people remove theirs but I never have the guts to do that. even modifiying it into euro-brace. I feel that they are there for a reason.

btw, is the tank full or was this cracked because of inbetween moving?
maybe just buy a 1/4" acrylic sheet, install 2 on next to the stock one.
