question regarding clark clowns

I have had a pair of Clark clown fish for about two years now, when i purchased them they where the same size. They where small and juvenile, and now nature has taken it's course and the two split into a male and female. In the past few weeks the female has been fanning the sand with her back fin. Similar to the fashion that cichlids to in freshwater. I have bred cichlids that do something similar. Do Clark's fan the sand the same way, or are they just looking to kick up some sand for some food. The female seems to be defensive of this area as well. I do not see any eggs, however there are other fish that could very well eat these eggs.

It was not my intention to breed the fish but, if they are going to do it regardless I'd like to know what to look for to help prepare for the brood.

Thanks

my first pair of cinamons used to do this, fanning great big holes in the sand, the female started IIRC and the male joined in after a week or so, then they spawned. Now i have a different pair and a bare bottom and they have spawned.
