I wanted to wet my feet and start slow, so I have my tank fowlr the last 6 months. My system include 2 overflow, sock filter, skimmer, refugium, then return. Currently it seem to be doing fine.... Now I just started to go into zoas and corals... (end goal is mix reef) what addition item I need to incorporated into my system seeing summer is close (chiller?) and other dosing since I notice everyone doing reactor this and dosing that... what next to add to the system...

What lights do you have???

Yup. If u keep ur house cool in the Summer you can get away with fans to cool the tank. U will be surprised a well placed fan can lower tank temp 5-10 degrees.

As far as reactors not really needed IMO. I don't run carbon or GFO. You won't need to dose calcium or alk if u only have soft corals. Also water changes will replenish if u do those weekly. If u notice ur levels dropping then look into kalkwasser to start dosing. It's the simplest way to start dosing.

i got 4 led 165w dimmable light.

thanks for the input with chiller... I will try to see if i can maintain my water temp. I'm trying to limit my water change to once a month.. so dosing is necessary?

as far as dosing goes. I would just measure parameters every week. keep a log. see how much it is dropping between water changes. if you are just doing zoa and soft corals and your levels are dropping to much between water changes then switch salts to something with higher levels of alk, cal, and mag. if that keeps it up enough between water changes you are good. if that dosnt keep up then I would just add kalk to the ATO water. again I don't think you will need to dose anything if you get a good salt and do water changes to the 20%-40% per month range. JMO

for the record smaller water changes more often are much better and safer for the tank then large water changes less frequent.

good luck.
