Can I keep any corals under compact lights? I will be upgrading to 4 t5s soon I hope, but all I have are the lights that you can find on any regular freshwater fish tank. If not, I can still wait haha

You could get a sponge, Xmas tree rock or some other non-photosynthetic filter feeder. Mushroom and GSP are very hit or miss under compacts.

It really depends on the type of PC bulb and depth of the tank.
There are a lot of possible low-mid light corals that would do fine under PC until you get you t5's.

I grew a lot of soft corals under my aquapod 24 PCs sub as Toadstools, torches even a favia.

I have had everything from lps torch frogs and hammers under pc also had mushrooms and colt coral under them and all did fine I have since upgraded to t5 but it all depends on size of bulbs and depth of the tank i had 4 96 watt pc on a 24 in deep tank and everything did fine.

Power compact have been used for years. Why now are they no good for growing corals? I have used them for years up until a few months ago when I switched to LEDs. Get some good bulbs and you will be fine in the light department.
