Can i used an old RO/DI unit or a cheap one and use each chamber for filtration? id like to fill one with carbon, making one GFO and the other maybe kalk or something? im not sure about kalk though. i think that will have to be seperate. what else could i put on a 3 stage RO/DI unit?

I'm pretty sure iv heard of people doing something like this before in the past but im not entirly sure.

I suppose you could put any media in there, e.g. carbon, phosphate, etc. The only thing is the diameter of the tubing and fittings is very small (1/4 in) and would tend to clog in an aquarium setup.

that is a good point, i didnt think of that at all. what would you suggest instead?
