Hi everyone,
I really need some inputs on converting an Aquaclear 110 into a refugium. I have some question, I was wondering if you guys can answer it for me.
1) Would the ac110 provide too much flow for a 10 gallons tank? If I turn the control to the Minimum, how much flow does it still produce? Can I get a smaller impeller and replace with the impeller from 110 to produce less flow?
2) How big is the actual space that I can put chaeto or other algae in? I am looking for the exact or approximate measurements. I just want to know if the area to put algae in is big enough to make it worth it.
3) Do you guys just use the AC110 as a refugium or you still put some carbon or Puri-chem under the algae? I want to use it as a refugium with carbon under it too. Is it alright?
4) Is it really worth it to turn ac110 into a refugium. I just want to have some algae to export the nutrient. I really don’t care for the pods that much. I just feed my two clowns.
5) What light do you use for this refugium? I plan on getting a 9 watts spiral light bulb from Homedepot and stick it to my desk lamp.
6) Which kind of algae is the best as a nutrient exporter? I used to have chaeto but it is kind of hard to keep alive. Right now I have feather algae and they grow really fast. Right now I reserve about 1/3 of the tank for the feather algae now but they are growing too fast and taking over the tank. I would like to have the whole 10 gallons for my fish and corals, that’s why I look into this AC110 as a refugium.
Thanks in advance.
PS. If you guys already have it. Is it really worth it? I mean does it really export out that much Nutrient to make a different?
