Questions about baby Crocea

I did alot of reading about clams before I bought one. I have a 12 gallong Aquapod that has been setup for 2 yrs. My question is on feeding phyto for the clam. It is about 1.5" and about half way up on the rocks under a 150w MH. Is it ok to just feed the tank phyto, or feed upsteam so clam gets direct shot? Do I need to feed everyday? What I have been doing is feeding 1 teaspoon of DT's everyday just in the tank. I am sure there are several ways to do it, just wanted some advice on how your guys have had personal experience with your baby Crocea's. I would have rather gotten a 2.5" but really couldn't find any and didn't want to have one shipped. Thank you in advance for your reply.

A 1.5" crocea isn't really a baby, they are the slowest growing of the tridacnids at about 1" max a year. As long as you have good lighting as you do, and fish you won't need supplimental feeding. Clams get what they need from strong light and ammonia and nitrates. "fish pee and poo"

I have been reading these thread for awile, I knew you wanted pics, they are still on the camera at home, forgot to bring it to work so will have to wait untill tomorrow. So anyway, since I have the DT's what would your suggestion be on feeding? Once every few days to keep from having more of a possiblity of having a water issue? Or once a week?? I do have 2 fish, 1 clown and 1 Royal Gramma. I also have Birds nest frag, candy cane, frogspawn, blue ridge, 2 different types of xenia, purple monti, and red mushrooms. In the back I have LR Rubble in chambers 1 and 2 chamber 3 have carbon and Cheato and in 4 I have pump and heater. Last water sample was 0 nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and Calcium 420 PH little low at 8, can't remember what Alk was....

I know the pics are not that good, will have to mess with camera and see if I can get a better one.

i want to know too. feeding phyto everyday, every other day or once per week?

no, As long as you have good lighting, and fish you won't need supplimental feeding. Clams get what they need from strong light and ammonia and nitrates. "fish pee and poo"

Thanks for all the info. As far as my phyto question it was more of just getting a general opinion, but by stressing that pee and poo is all it needs you did answer. To fishy, what I am going to do is just feed the phyto once a week to benifit the whole tank. I like the idea of not having to worry about if I am getting enough phyto to the clam, if it wants pee and poo, to each their own LOL.
