i am building a rock wall for a 135 i am putting together. my question is fairly simple i suppose. what is the best method to clean the old base rock before i start building and foaming? it has been sitting for some time now and want to be sure it will be safe to put in the tank. i have thought about bleach, acid, just spraying them down with water.... what do you guys think would be the best way? is any of that even necessary?

You can cure it in a separate bin with saltwater and change the water every week or so. Test your phosphates and when there at 0 consistently you're good. Bleach will kill any life, which isn't necessary since it's dead rock already. Acid will eat away at the surface of the rock which will help speed up the process "supposedly". Some rock takes longer than others. For example, Pukani rock usually takes a while to leach out all the phosphates and organic matter since the rock is super porous.

So to answer your question, no none of it is necessary but I would at least cure it in a separate container for a few weeks. The acid and bleach isn't necessary imo.

i have it all ina 55 gallon tank and a pump moving the water. if i went the bleach route what would be a good ratio? i am really wanting to be sure everything is dead.
