questions about water change aging

Hi all,
I am mixing a water change as i write this in a grey 32 gallon brute trash can. I know most of you use a powerhead to aerate, but i don't currently have any extra powerheads for use...all are hooked up to something.

My questions is this: Is it ok to just us an air pump without an airstone to aerate my water while i'm waiting the 24+ hours for it to stabilize? And of course there is a heater in use too. Thanks for the help in advance.

The powerhead is more for mixing the salt than it is for adding air. If you have some other way to stir in the salt, then an airstone is fine for aeration.

thanks for the help, I am going to buy an airstone tomorrow to get a finer bubble in the water. Hopefully that would add more oxygen to it.

I think you need a powerhead in there to help mix. If the volume was a little smaller like a 5g bucket then an airstone would be ok. But 24 hrs is not enough to get all that salt to dissolve in the water (approx 16 cups in 32 gallons)
