Questions about xenia corals

I heard someone say that xenia corals "eat up there nitrates". I have read that they like somewhat dirty water as in traces amounts of phosphates and a bit of nitrates. But do they actually help lower your phosphates and nitrate levels?? Sounds too good to be true to me. I do love they way some of them pulse however and would like to get some for my tank.

Yes xenia does lower my nitrates. For this reason I rarely do a water change. I have to harvest a lot of it, so beware it can take over. I harvested a pound 2 weeks ago.

Check this out, you could do a xenia refugium instead.

I change water about every 3 months, 5-10 gallons. Tank is a 65, no skimmer or refugium/sump. I harvest a lot of xenia....I would go back and do a refugium instead.

Xenia grows incredibly fast.....I was just showing the amount I had to harvest though. I will have that much again in a few months.

I don't have a sump, I would like to get a small group of them because I like how they looks, and because they lower the nitrates a bit. I will start very small though seeing how fast they grow.

If I were to put xenia on one large rock in the sand bed, would it jump over to another rock island or go across the sand?

My 180 came with a ton of xenia. But i guess I run too much chaeto in the sump now cause the xenia slowly disappeared. Either my water is too clean now or just way too dirty for it.

If anyone has some pulsing xenia corals that harvest them in my area, and need to get rid of some I'll take a small amount off your hands lol
