I know i know I should have qt always got my fish from the same store and one day just had to have the fish from another store...Now I Have Ich... The Only thing that is showing signs is my two small tangs... One Yellow and One Blue Hippo Both are eating like crazy but both have it. All My fish are now in qt have been for three days and i am slowing lowering the salnity... but my problem is my lawn mower blenny is getting skinny he just does not get the amount of food from the qt as he would the dt... even though he loves nori

So my question is Can All Fish Get Ich... and even though the other guys are not showing signs they most likely have it...

List of Fish
1 Yellow Tang
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 Orange Diamond spotted Goby
2 False tank raised percs
4 Blue chromis

They were all in the display for a week with the two having ich trying to figure out whether or not i needed to cycle my qt!!!

any help would help! thanks!

HI,

Yup, unfortunatly, your main now has ich. No fish is immune to ich, its an opportunisitc parasite, meaning it looks for fish to host on and if you added the fish to them main tank with ich its in there now.

SOme fish like mandarins have a thicker slime coat which it can be harder for the ich to attach to but they can (and do) still contract it.

Since your doing QT, you should qt them all and let your main sit fallow.

Also something else to think of is the size of your tank; you should consider getting a bigger one.

Its good that they are eating.. Keep feeding them, it will only help the process.

good luck,

HB

Thanks... I do have all of them in qt... My Hubby Is Getting rid of his fish in the 125 so Guess what My Guys will be moving into!!! Yeah!

Oh thats good. ITt will get crowded in your current one..

Good thing is, I see another reef or something in your future..

ps. remember to treat and then AFTER you see no more signs of the disease keep them in QT for a few more weeks to make sure they are all well.

It would suck to expose the larger tank to the parasite.

Catching chromis is a lot harder too!

best

This is slightly off topic, but I've always been in the camp that you QT you're fish first using hyposalinity for six weeks before introducing it to your tank. We had Frank Burr speak at the Midwest Marine Conference about QT systems last weekend. He said he does not use hypo but Seachem Paraguard for 20 days. He's said he's never had an issue with this method. I was [pretty surprised by this.

Its another way to treat something.

malachite green if I remember correctly can be influenced by all sorts of water factors/parameters. Some of my fresh water fish friends use malachite green for ich.

Of course it can be toxic too, but then again a lot of things are like formalin esc..
