questions on chalice

today while getting a few frags small frags at my LFS i asked about a peice of a chalice coral that was for sale. The lady told me a little about them and said if i wanted to give it a try I could have the frag for free. My tank doesnt quite have the best lighting (BC14 with stock PC lighting) so i went ahead and put him as high up in the tank as i could, near my koralia nano. I have a few questions though. how far should i keep my other corals away from it because ive read that they have sweepers. and can they sting me? ive never had anything aggressive before, just Zoas leathers and xenia.

First I would keep it mid-low now until it acclimates to your lighting then raise it higher if it needs the light. Most chalices don't like a lot of flow so keep it on medium-low flow. Some do have very long sweeper tentacles depending on how big the Chalice is. My Blood Red Chalice has about 3-4'' sweepers at night only. So I'd give it a couple inches and watch it. Not sure how potent they are against humans but they can destroy other corals including other Chalices

idk if this helps any but it was in a shallow frag tank, about 5-6 inches of water is my guess under some biiiiig hallides. so its accustumed to bright lights, should i still start it kinda low and work it up? i moved everyone away from it, and if need be i can take it out of the flow, but that would require moving it down in the tank

I'd start it off low and go from there. That's a keeper LFS by the way, sounds like some great people there!

heck ya, theyre awesome. the prices amazing because they arnt really worried about making much profit, theyre in it for the hobby and get their main income from elsewhere. i was happy tho cuz she was like, if you wanna give it a shot go ahead and take one cuz theyve been sittin in here for a while. they used to sell online but i dont think they do its GCreef
