I'm thinking of setting up a species tank for a mantis, hopefully a G. smithii, and would like some comments and suggestions. Through my research I've seen that these can be very minimalist setups or they can be real masterpieces of technology; I'd like to keep this simple.
The plan...
15 gallon High, 20"x10"x18"
+ 4 inches of sand
+ 15-20 lbs of live rock
75W heater
1? powerhead (Aquaclear 20?)
HOB filter (floss, carbon, etc)
DIY canopy
+ 65W 10K PC
+ 65W Dual actinic PC
+ LED moonlights and cooling fan
I'd like to set this up mid-March, and let everything establish itself, before looking for a mantis at the end of May. That's about 10 weeks. The room temperature is usually about 70, higher in the summer so the fan can be turned on then.
Anyone have similar setups they'd like to comment on, or suggestions for this one?
