Questions on Profilux

I figure I would start a thread here, since I have a few questions about this controller :)

Last summer I was in the middle of planning a 150g reef tank and the Profilux II was on the top of my list then. Well life and work interrupted things and I had to sell my system and relocate (from San Antonio to Detroit).

I am planning on getting back into the hobby with a sweet nano setup. I'm going to get a 23g cube setup for a end table in my living room. Preliminary plans are for a Deltec MCE3000, 24" ATI 4 or 6 bulb fixture, and (2) Tunze 6055.

What I am looking for in the Profilux is:

* Tunze Stream/Nano Stream control. By having the controller power the wave functions, it will save money so I do not have to buy a multi-controller.

* LED spotlight. When I read up on these last summer, there was one that did all the functions in one (Moonlight, Sunrise, Lightning Storms?)

* 3 Fan Breeze control. I am going to use the fans to cool the tank.

From there all I need is standard temp control and pH monitoring. Simple lighting control from 2 separate outlets as well. My problem is I read the new product guide and it blew me away with all the new options (since last summer). Could someone fill me in on which package would best suit me? And I'm trying to find some ballpark pricing for the items above.

Thanks in advance.

PS Is the software only available on PC? Or is there a MAC version as well?;)

Welcome back to the D.

Your setup sounds like it will be alot of fun to put together. If you haven't already relocated when you get here you will find numerous stores well stocked with quality livestock. You will also find me, your local Profilux dealer.

Best deal out there is the Profilux beginner pack @ $599 (arriving next week)

This package comes with:

Profilux plus II & temp probe, digital power bar, AQD ph probe, float sensor and bracket, and a Tunze 1 cable.

Add Tunze 1's or 2's to suit your needs, you will need a YL2-1 splitter cable for two Tunze. (in stock)

For the LED spot get the full function Simu spot. If you plan on running more than one spot or stick pickup another YL2-1 splitter.(in stock)

3 fan unit and controller (in stock)

This package will handle temp control, ph monitoring/control, T5 lighting, LED functions, Fan control, and of course Tunze control.

There is only a PC version that I am aware of.

ahh Sweet a local dealer! I've been up here for about 6 months now. I'm in the Belleville area. Do you have a store front? And if so what is your address? I'd like to swing by your shop and check it out if you are open to the public. I'm still in the planning stages this month but if I nail down what I want (the first time LOL), the Profilux sounds like it will suit my needs.

I figure if I would have spent the money on a basic controller (RK2) and a Tunze Multicontroller, I'm already at the basic price of the Profilux. Plus since it will be such a small tank, the 3fans would be more cost effective than a nanochiller.

Just to answer teh MAC question, we do have a growing number of users using the software on MAC now, you will find they all are a helpful bunch in giving you the required info if this is your preferred route of OS

Well my main computer is a MAC but I do have a old clunker PC ;) Do you know where I could post the questions of using the Profilux II Software on a MAC? Will the program load on a MAC? Also, is it possible to use a usb to serial port adapter?

If you look up the thread reagrding network questions there is lots of info there.

yes you can use a sreial to USB adapter but we do not offer support for them as they can prove finicky with any equipment. We can only recommend and support the GHL PLM-USB card

Gotcha. I was able to find the networking thread last night. Either way I can still use my old pc laptop to setup the controller.

Another question I had is with regards to the thunderstorm function. Since I am planning on not using a dimmable t-5 fixture, would I be able to program the controller to turn off the main lights on the tank and just use the LED spotlights for the thunderstorm lighting? And once the 'storm' ends have the main lights turn back on?
