Questions regarding starting refugium in Aqueon Proflex Sump

I have a 20 gallon Aqueon Proflex Sump along with my 90 gallon display. I have some nuisance hair algae and am thinking of adding a refugium. In my middle chamber sits my skimmer. It takes about half the room. Can I simply put a ball of chaeto in there and add a refugium light? With my return pump and GFO in the third chamber I don't think I'd have the room to move the skimmer over. Thoughts? Thanks.

You might have issues if you put it in with the skimmer. Chaeto possibly getting sucked into the pump and you will likely get algae growth in your skimmer with a light on it like that.

You would want to add some type of divider between to separate the skimmer from the algae or as posted above the skimmer will get clogged with algae that it sucks up. It is also a good idea to add some type of shade for the skimmer or it will start growing algae on the inside of the collection chamber, requiring frequent cleaning.
