I am new to SW. I have had a 40 gal tank setup for a year now. I have just bought 2 pep shrimp to take care of the Aiptasia's cause i'm tired of using and buying Aiptasia Control. About 6 months ago I had algae problems a grean grass/hair algae and a red slime cyno. The store I went to told me to use Marine SAT I also bought a sand sifting star and 2 snales cant remember what they where called but they burrowed in the sand also and 2 emerald crabs after 3 - 4 months the majority of it went away but still have green and red spots between the sand and glass of the aquarium, its not that nice looking you cant see the nice white sand in the front. within the past week and a half a small patch of possibly cyno is coming back on the sand and starting to get the green hair algae on the top mounted skimmer and filter returns not on the rock anymore. someone told me to use a phosphate remover, got my water tested it was at 1.0 phospate so im using that, is there anything else I can do with out using that Marine SAT stuff anymore. Also on my Bio Wheels there is a white something that you can see as it turns not sure how to discribe it you can see it moving with the water, Algae? its also on the back of the tank glass. tnx any help would be appreciated

when you do a water change use a airline tubing to suck out the cyano. cyano is really just kind of a right of passage for marine tanks in my experience like acne on a teenager.
By the way your gonna need to manually feed your starfish in a tank that size or else it will starve. i got suckered in to getting two of them they didnt really clean my sand that much. and one died from lack of food im guessing
