Quick Acclimation Question

Will do, the shipment is still on schedule and should get here around noon tomorrow.

I am thinking about piecing together a kit, I see different kits for specific chemicals at 3-8$ and figure that'd be a little cheaper then buying a kit all together.

I think I'm going to keep using API for ammonia and nitrite, as if there is ANY of either of those I have a problem, and the number isn't really important, it just needs to get to zero. I might keep using the nitrate test from them too.

For calcium, phosphate, magnesium and alkalinity I am not sure. I am a sophomore in highschool, and I don't have a large reef budget. So I need something reasonably priced, do you like the Red Sea tests, for what they cost?
 
Darn. Just checked on my shipment, and I found out it got delayed until Tuesday. It's not much more time, but another day swimming in ammonia...:headwally:

And the red sea kit I'm looking at does test alkalinity :)
 
Yeah they are great kits for the price. I have tried a bunch, and I seem to like the Red Sea the most. All kits have their ups and downs, you kinda need to try a few and figure out which one you like. If the kit is not easy to do, or read, you are less likely to test due to the hassle. So pick a good one! :)
 
Some people dont like the RS kit because its more technical and takes longer. I have the reef foundation kit for Calcium, Magnesium, and Alkalinity.

If im being dead honest i totally use a freshwater API kit to measure my ammonia and nitrite lol just with the SW color chart as i was told they are the same chemicals

I also had the reef foundation API kit and it gave me the same readings as the Red Sea one. So idk if API is THAT inaccurate as people say. Its just not as precise i guess? The RS kit gives very specific measures that API does not
 
$30!???! They're $75 here. Bought it anyways, though. A good test kit is much cheaper than replacing stock.

I should test more often, it's just such a pain in the butt to do! :deadhorse1:

Good news! My shipment came in from Marine Depot, 20lbs of Aquamaxx Rock (GREAT looking rock btw!), a little specimen container, and most importantly, the salt :D

Going to do a WC this afternoon, but the little dude is looking super happy right now!
 
I haven't done the water change yet (decided I'll do it tomorrow morning, ammonia isn't showing itself yet and the damsel is happy) , but I have been messing around with the rock and I am EXTREMELY happy with what I got. I can create some really cool 'scales with it! :D
