Quick Question 180 Return Pump?

I'm considering a Reeflo Barracuda as a return pump for a aga 180 . I'm concerned about going too big. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'll have about 6 additional feet of plumbing to a chiller under the floor but the rest is standard.

How far will the pump be located from the tank? Also, how much vertical distance will it need to travel?

Sump will be in the stand directly under tank and the chiller will be in the crawlspace directly under stand. I figure 5-6ft on oneside and 3ft onthe other of vertical about 14ft overall not counting for fittings

IMHO it is way too much. 4200g/hr! the water will pass too fast tru your sump. Save the barracuda for CL and get a Dart for return or even a MAK4. just my 2 cents.

I am putting a sequence snapper ( 2400 gph ) on my 210 for a return. My buddy has a snapper on his 180 but has it directed into a uv plus his returns and says that it is great. That is why he recommended it on my 210.I also found people that run a dart on theres , but you may end up turning it down some. So i would say go with a snapper.

I thought ~5x tank volume was the desired throughput for a sump,so for a 210g thats ~1050g.Go for a ehiem 1262.

Thanks for the replies? I've been playin with the numbers but sometimes the numbers dont work in the practical application. This is why I came to u . THe best help is from those of you who have seen a setup or run a certain pump in a similiar set up ---then we know it will work . I also played with the idea of two smaller pumps on diff. circuits? May still be an option but sequence seems to have the flow,Quietness, and reasonable wattage

pump for 180g?

pump for 180g?

Hi, I'm sort of in the same boat. Setting up my new 180g with a 4way OM that will be pumped with a Sequence Dart. My question is what is the best return pump for the overflow ((1) 1.5"drain, (2) 1" returns for (sump/refugium/skimmer) filtering system? The plumbing will run under the crawl space to the garage 14 ft. away - then dump into a 100g stock tank sump/refugium. The 4way's pump will also be out there, so there's no noise in our family room.

Is it best to use 1.5" pvc for the pvc under the house or 2"??

Thanks for any suggestions.

I use a seq 4200 ( which is a dart basically) for my 560/g with a 240 sump.
You only want what your skimmer can handle or 3-5x going through your sump. the rest is a waste and a headache. its more efficient to use 2 darts instead, one on a closed loop and one as a return then one barracuda. you will get 7000+/gph for 320/w.even better was the idea was of using the ehiem and powerheads/tunze/vortec and really make more waves for lower costs.

I have a 210 and use the eheim 1262. I think it is a great pump. I don't know why you would want more passing through the sump. Use a CL, Vortech, or powerheads for your main flow within the tank.

Eheim 1262?

Eheim 1262?

But what if you need to return the sump water 14 feet under the crawl space and then up to the top of the overflow box about 5 feet?? Tank is 180g and it will also have a CL 4way OM pumped with a Dart.
