Quick Question on QT

Hello,

I am setting up a QT tank; it is 40 gals with skimmer, UV 7w, and canister filter with media (foam and bioballs) from main display tank. Now I am planning of using Hyposalinity in this QT and leaving it running at that.

My question is, when I introduce new fish to this QT, is it okay to introduce them to a tank that is 1.009 in salinity directly? If so, then how is the best acclimation procedure for this.

Thanks,

Firas

I personally wouldn't do this. Leave the q tank at the same salinity you maintain your display. Once the fish are acclimated, drop the salinity over two days to 14 ppt. A bit faster is fine too, and I've lowered salinity in my q tank in just over 24 hours with no ill effects. For the short time it takes to drop salinity, it's not worth the risk quickly switching a fishes environment to such a drastic drop.

Drop it down over a few days. After treatment, raise it more slowly than you dropped it. Fish can take drops better than hikes in salinity.
