when the sandstorm in my tank goes down, the sand lands on the rocks, te rocks are there to help add more bacteria to the sand to weigh it down, so whe n iuse a baster to blow off my rocks, wont it just go up the nfall down on the rockin a continual pattern, or will it eventually get heavy enough to drop down right away after i blow it off the rocks?

The sand is denser than the rock, so it will mostly settle. Especially if you turn your pump off for about 15 minutes or so when you use theturkey baster.

When what gets heavier? the sand: the sand won't get any heavier. Maybe when you blow the sand off with your baster don't squeeze it so hard. It should all come off.

Ideally, you have enough water flow so that the detritus (which is lighter than sand) that you blow off the rocks stays in the water column long enough to go over your overflow so it can be removed in your sump.

I start at the top and work down. It get into the water coloum and get filtered out. Some of it does resttle on the rocks. It might take a couple times before you get the rocks looking better. Its a pain but it does work. I do mine a night before i go to bed so I dont have to look at it.
