Got my first half of the package for my 75g today.
While putting a very large piece in I accidentally ripped a yellow ball sponge.

Should I go ahead and remove it?

Pics will be forth coming when water clears.

Also the rock looks incredible, thanks Richard.

From what I have read on them, they are nearly indestructible. If its a good sized chunk, I would just stick it something, but for sure keep the original.

From: http://www.gulfspecimen.org/Sponges.html

"Cinachyra alloclada, a bright yellow sponge that is perfectly spherical. Its hardiness is truly amazing, it can be buried completely in anerobic sediments and Cinachyra still survives. Withstands wide temperature variation and seems to last indefinitely in the marine aquarium. Size: 3-6 cm. in diameter."

Oh Wow! and a big Oh Yess! He/It is just torn a little not completely in half. I'll see if he reconnects or regrows.

Thanks for the great news.

SB, the most important thing I have noticed with the sponges is that they do NOT get exposed to air at all. I have taken them out of the specimen bag while holding it underwater. It gets tricky getting them out that way because you don't want the shipping water to get in the tank. But when I do it this way the sponges remain healthy. There was one that was cracked when I got it but the crack has healed up. I will try to post pics later.

One of the light oranges sponges (i think you call it Paddle Fan or something like that) has grown itself onto the rock the way gorgs do after time. It was one that was not exposed to air.
