Quiet One restart issues

I have a Quiet One 3000 on my sump return and a battery backup system. When the power goes out, there's a very brief (1/10th second or so) interruption of the power. All my other pumps continue just fine, but the Quiet One gets stuck somehow. Worse, it doesn't seem to turn back on right away, but I have to turn it on and off a bunch of times before it starts going.

I thought head pressure might be the problem, but I added a check valve right after the pump which alleviates the pressure. The pump also has a new impeller.

Any ideas?

run it in some acid. there is probably precip on the magnet. run it over night in Vinegar or something stronger. should take care of it.
some times, that quick surge makes the impeller want to start backwards.

I have had the same problem with my 3000. Does just what you described. I'll have to try the Vinegar trick. Thanks

I have had the same problems. I now have a UPS on the main pump that covers me for about 30min. That covers most issues but I still wanted to know why, after acid soaks, the pump(s) (I have multiple Quiet One pumps of different sizes) would stall)

What I found is that even after a acid bath, I could still feel the impeller sticking a little on the magnet assembly. It's supposed to rotate about 180 degrees or so. Some calcium or other precipitate was under the actual impeller. So, when the pump started, and the magnetic field causes the impeller to begin rotating, there was resistance to rotation and it stalled. The initial rotation should be the "click, click ,click" sound. Thats the sound of the impeller assembly trying to "catch up" to the rotating magnetic field in the pumps body.

I don't know if this is a good description. But, like others have said, it comes down to cleaning the impeller insider and out completely. If you do that, the restart issues should go away.

Dump it.

Dump it.

I had one with same problem. This is a flaw with those pumps. An online vendor with reviews showed many people had the same problem. After coming home one day from work with my pump out for who knows how long I dumped it. My livestock is worth a lot more than a $100 pump. I know use a Mag. I also heard a lot of good things about Ehiem.

Hmm, Quiet One support told me to return it for service. Given this seems to be a problem for many people, I will just replace the pump. I'm upgrading my CL pump (ocean runner 6500), so I'll swap that in for the QO. It never has restart issues.

Well, I did it today. Swapped out the Quiet One for the Ocean Runner on my sump pump and installed a Dolphin Ampmaster 2700(?) for my closed loop. Hopefully everything in the tank will appreciate the extra flow, and no more restart issues!

Now my arms are tired!
