QuietOne4000-PLEASE HELP!!

I currently have a QO3000, I hooked up a UV filter to my 90 gallon and now notice the circulation from tank so sump is not that great anymore. So I thought I would beef it up to the 4000 one. Well, I plugged it in and it vibrates so loud. I checked the impeller and all looks ok, my 3000 is dead silent. What could be wrong? Am I missing something???

If I have to return it what is another quiet, stronger pump?? But maybe it is something simple that is making the noise??

As long as it isn't a 4000 HH, you can try swapping the 3000 impeller with the new one. They're the same part but he 4000 has more coils in the motor.

I returned my 6000 because it was loud too. Someone told me that the smaller ones are quiet but the larger ones are loud. I bought an eheim and it is super quiet. Have you tried padding under the pump to see if that helps?

Thank you I will try that. Do you think that could be it? Would the impeller make it loud or is the motor loud.

Not really sure but it couldn't hurt to try. I've had both pumps and to be honest, the 4000 was not much stronger than the 3000. I could barely tell the difference in flow.

Pwoller's suggestion on padding is also a good one.

have you considered a small pump just for the uv sterilizer?? might cost ya a bit more wattage useage, but the trade-off would be that way you can get good low flow thru it to optimize it's contact time w/ the water going thru it & also have the ability to not run it 24/7/365

The pump doesn't vibrate in the sump. I can hold it in my hand and it sounds the same. The vibrating is from within. I didn't notice any flow difference either. I thought that had to do with the fact it vibrated. Maybe I should just return it and try the other brand suggested. This is one thing that sucks about shopping on line. Now I have to send it back and wait for credit. Plus I live in Canada and had it shipped from marine depot to a broker place across the border, we live in a border town about a ten minute trip to the US. What a PIA!

sounds to me it would be worth it to goto the ups store & rent a mailbox to have stuff sent to instead....or something similar if there is anything in the town on the us side of the border.

not sure if you can do that or not, but worth looking into....

I have a QO 4000 running a closed loop on my 29gal and it is pretty loud. I also bought a QO 9000 but for my 120 gal. but that thing had to go it was the loudest pump I have ever seen. I wouldn't buy another QO if I needed a small cheaper pump I'd go with the Ocean Runner line as long as you don't use them to run too many items they are great IMO. And they are very quiet. Good luck.

I have ordered an Eheim 1262 pump and returned the QO4000. It's too bad as the 3000 is so quiet. I guess the more horse power the more noise. I sure hope this new Eheim is quiet. It should be dead silent for the price. My tank is in the kitchen of my house so noise is a total concern. I will be handed divorse papers if it's loud. Wish me luck when it comes, I will post my results.

I have a QO 4000. Sometimes after I clean it, it is louder than before. Try taking it apart and putting it back together. I don't know what it is, but it has worked for me.
