Quite Overflow Box

Cap'n I wouldn't be too concerned about it . I think its semantics. Is it chemical because it binds materials that are attracted to the water air interface to the bubbles because of opposing charges on the materials and the water molecules? Or would a molecular change need to occur such as in denitrification to be chemical,?Wait a minute that's biological oops. Carbon attracts molecules the same way bubbles do doesn't it. Now I'm confused. I think knowing what's going on in a certain process is alot more interesting anyway. And I think the way Percula 9 wrote was clear and well put.

I hear you--thanks:lol:

If all you want to do is quite down the "gurgling noise," take a plastic straw, cut it long enough to have it hold tight in the over flow, and place it perpendicular to the water drain. You just need to "break" the suction around that water inlet. That should help.

Made both designs mentioned in the top of this thread and they both work great. Never had a tank that was almost silent until now. I will say that a little tweaking is needed to keep them from starting a siphon, either a piece of 3/8" hose in the top or drill a couple of 1/8"holes in the cap. Otherwise a bit of a mess can be expected on the floor. Mike/KD9RG

I constructed a durso inside the overflow box with a 1" pvc parts. All I needed was a T (positioned sideways), a 90 and an end cap. A small hole should be drilled in the end cap. This was the best mod I've made to date as the overflow is virtually silent. Its very easy if you want to give it a try.

i ended up using the durso style with the top cap solid and put a airline through elbow and down the pipe to provide airflow

Now if i could get my in sump return pump to stop vibrating the sump!!!

Always something

here's how I stopped that on my system.....

what's the sump sitting on? A buddy of mine put it on a thick styrofoam sheet which stopped the vibration
