rabbitfish

Looking for experience with rabbitfish. I am thinking of getting either a scribbled(blueline) rabbitfish or a figi foxface. My question is will they bother my softies and lps?

Agreed. If well fed, they have no reason to sample the corals. Mine gets nori/macroalgae every day, and grazes on the live rock in between. Never seen it go for any of the softies in the tank.

my favorite rabbitfish is the golden blotched rabbitfish... I am giong to be picking one up later this week!!!!

But yes as long as you keep them fed they are happy and wont touch your corals

I've had a scribbled rabbitfish (Siganus doliatus) for 2+ years and have never caught him nipping at zoas, LPS or SPS.

I keep nori in the tank almost constantly. These fish are great eaters of all types of food and grow very quickly. Your 180 is an appropriate size for this species.

He also has not shown any aggression whatsoever to any other fish in the aquarium.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to answer them!

Rabbitfish and foxfaces have great personality. they are sort of like slow, mellow tangs, IMO. I don't have the species you are interested in, but I do have a Siganus corallinus (blue spotted rabbitfish) that I've had for years, since it was 2". It's about 8" now. Great temperament, hangs out with my emperor angel, never stops eating, goes after algae. I don't have corals in my tank, so can't address that issue.

Research the size, as some rabbifish get very large. They are hardy and grow fast, so make sure you get one that is the right size for your tank.

I just took a blue line out of my tank. He ate like a pig. He ate nori, mysis, shrimp, pellets, flakes, reef chili, Ora Glo, algae, etc, but never ever nipped at any coral.

He was a fast grower and had a wonderful personality. A few nights ago he actually swam and sat in the palm of my hand. So it was really hard to give him away, but a 6" fish in a 58 gallon was just not going to be good very much longer. He doubled in size in 2 years but to care of my aglae problem.

Good luck with yours.

I get so attached to my fish, I think that's the reason I keep adding to and upgrading my tanks. Just can't bear to let the pets go. :)

Here's a pic of mine. Never touches any LPS, SPS or softies.
