Need some help I have a Xr15w pro gen3 running over a 20x16x12 tank @ 9" above the water line. I have been running the coral labs ab setting @ 45%. i wanted to see the par i was getting so I borrowed a par meter from a friend and was surprised to see at the bottom which is about 11" under water line I didn't even have 100 par dead center under the light. There no obstructions in the way as it just a frag tank. Does this sound right? Everything I've read makes me believe I shouldn't be over 45 - 50% any help would be appreciated

Which PAR meter did you use? I read a lot about how PAR meters cannot read the blue in LED well. I also run the AB setting. I recently got into SPS. It's been about 1-2 months and I do see my acros beginning to grow and encrust. Same exact setup as yours pretty much

I'm not sure how well the PAR meter will accurately read LED so maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

I have my brightness max at 55% which makes intensity 33%. I did change the schedule to 11hours a da and so far, the corals have been acceptable of it. I cannot say they're growth has increased because of the longer lighting period or if they're just now settled in and ready to grow lol

Out of the 7 acro and 1 milli, I had 2 acros bleached. But I'm assuming those weren't due to the light. They both bleached slowly from the bottom up.

I did use the acclimate timer for 3 weeks when I put these in. They were all under hydra 52s before if that helps

i have a gen 3 over a frag tank the tank is 9 inches deep and the light is 16 inches off the surface. i used to run the sps a+b but changed back to the radiance program. i use the tir lense and run the light at 100%. this gives me aprox 300 to 350 par in the center and it falls off from there. but nowhere is it less than 150 in a 24x24x8 frag tank. good luck zsu

Are you using the 120 degree lens or the 80 degree? How far from the lights are the acros sitting? I raised my lights to 50% I'm gonna try to get them to about 60% buy going up 5% weekly.

even though the "brightness" is set to 100% the actual output of the light is about 75% due to how the sliders are pre programed on the radiance template. zsu

Not home right now but 9 inches from the water (followed instructions so I know lol) and I think 8 inches from the acro.

I'm using the 120 lens but all the acros are are within a 6in radius from the center of the light.

How much does 5% change your intensity? General rule is to increase light slowly because you don't want to go too fast and bleach the corals

What kinda corals do you have and how long have they been in there? Just because there's a general level everybody is using doesn't mean it'll work for your tank. I just started mine slow and slowly increased it while watching the corals reaction. I've never measured PAR. Thought about it a few times but didn't. Now that I'm starting to see growth, I haven't even messed with the schedule.

Im looking to be in the range of 250-300 i didn't think i had to crank these light that high with such a shallow tank. Seems im looking in the range of 75-85% on my setting.

Its only a 4% increase in intensity so it should be safe without running acclimation. Im.running a mixed bag of corals zoa's, lps and sps. Mostly everything was saved from a tank crash except sps i lost all those in the carsh. So what sps i have now are newly bought frags. I had an AI sol blue over the tank and everything was growing great. I swapped to the radion cause i wanted a full spectrum light .The tank now has been up and running for almost 1 yr now.

Found this cool website that supposedly has the ecotech PAR chart

Dunno how accurate it is though

I think the reason we have to run it a bit high for high par is because he AB schedule turns off almost half the lights compared to the advertised PAR levels they prob test running all spectrum at 100%

I think it's been a couple weeks now, maybe I should increase mine a bit too.

I have the light set to 75% now but doing a 3 week acclimation period. Hope I don't lose more coral during this period. I already hAve zoa's losing color and some other corals looking not so great. I tired aquaticlog but I think that's for the xr30 not 15.
