radion xr30w pro fan dead

Discovered the above light off this morning -- LED on top alternating between red and I think yellow. When I reset it same issue.

Dead fan? It does have some build up on it, dust/a bit of salt.

I took the cover off, disconnected the fan and hooked up a small battery tester with 2 AAs to try and get it to run, it won't.

Is there a way to fix this myself? replacement fan? Does it have to be sent in?

Thanks.

well scratch that. connected the fan to a 9V battery and it works fine.

so no idea what is wrong with the unit.

Solved my own issue. Three hours I'll never get back. Had to connect the light directly to my computer and reset the firmware. Reeflink wouldn't do it. Connecting it to the reeflink via USB wouldn't do it. Really shouldn't be this difficult.

My G3s seem to work fine, i.e., never had one shot down from overheating, but one fan is always on and the other is NEVER on. I have not pulled the fan out to check it (and don't really want to). I'm running them through the Apex WXM module... you think this is just a firmware issue? i'm headed to the Neptune Apex forum next to see if there is a solution there.

If it were me I'd pull the fan out, just a few screws for the cover, it then pops off. (if you need there are videos on youtube).

The fan isn't screwed in, you just have to pop off a small connector.

To test it I used a 9 volt battery and two wires.

I finally got around to opening up the XR30 and have mixed emotions about what I found. The good news is that it was a simple fix - - only one of the two pins was connected to the fan. The other was bent down and the opening for the pin was smashed closed. I bent the pin up into place, used a needle to open up the hole on the connector and viola... she works! The sad part is that this problem actually escaped detection in EcoTech’s QA/testing before boxing this (very expensive) light up. This should have never shipped like this. Oh well, it’s fixed now and I can crank up the intensity without worrying about overheating.

I had a similar experience with my reef genesis water change system. One of the holding cylinders wouldn't open it's valve to drain when running. I opened it up and I found one of the wire connectors on the inside wasn't attached. Pushed it on and it works. Sent an email to the company and didn't even get a response.
