Radions?

There are hundreds if not thousands of people using Radions for SPS in the world.

I am one of them.

How do you like them? Tell me about your tank. I have a 120g mixed reef that is becoming SPS dominated. I have two gen 2 models and love them.

LEDs have very differing opinions, and some have great success while others not so much. I can say that in my own little world of experience a local buddy who owns an LFS changed over to Radions in his store and started losing new trans-shipped corals at a much faster rate than he had previously experienced. Also another local gentleman that I am helping tried Radions on his 3000 gallon system and lost dozens of new corals that he bought. In my opinion using LEDs in general is more an art than a science and Radions in particular seem challenging. If you do go Radion, my only advice is to start with them placed 18 inches or more up and work them lower over time.

Pics would be nice. Could you also include how longyou've been running radions or leds over the tank.

Santa gave me them for Christmas :) they have been setup since Christmas Eve of 2012. I am currently at 50% intensity and have been gradually been increasing it in order to not burn anycorals. I do not know how to upload pics or else I would have already done so.

LED can and DO grow SPS wonderfully. Radions are among the best especially the newer models.

Any LED on the market can "photo shock" your coral and it's extremely important to "Acclimate" any coral to LED. Dimmable LED are a MUST.

Here is a tank lit by GHL Mitras LED and not only GROWING coral but with stunning color retention and enhancement

So you've done good by going LED and I don't think you'll regret it :)

Yeah that's not long enough to be making accurate assessment. You may have had a bad MH setup before or some other things were wrong with your previous lighting.

We're not talking about led and Sps were talking radions only. I think there are better led system out then radions and people are starting to see this lately. Just look at the poll that was recently put up.

I think acclimation is the key to LEDs; I initially raised the light level too sharply and too slowly and caused some bleaching in my corals.. I have since gone to raising one channel by 1% every 3-4 days and the corals look a little upset (slight browning on some) they don't bleach and by the next level adjust, they are starting to look better. Before I tried 2% every week or two and I'd get substantial bleaching every time..

I bet once you start changing the light level, it could probably be raised every other day. I think once the corals get used to a light level (ie color up) then changing it will just anger them.

edit: I don't have a radion; my light is a 5 channel multichip (250w) current limited to 500ma/channel.
