Rain Soft RO/DI

I bought a Rain Soft ro/di unit second hand thinking my plumber father-in-law would surely know how to hook it up. HA

HELP Where do I start. OR, would I be better off to go buy a new one?

I take it your father-in-law wasn't much use? :)

Did your unit come with any attachment accessories? Usually they come with a saddle valve piercer. Make sure you don't pierce the hot water line, or else you will ruin the membranes. It is similar to tapping for an icemaker (if you don't have the accessories, the hardware stores sell "icemaker kits" with the saddle valve & what you need). May want to ask the previous owner what he did for installation. Also, might want to ask how long he has had it or test TDS; you may need to change out the membranes.

Rainsoft makes several diffferent models of those. For instance, mine is a whole house water softener, but have the ultrefiner 9590 for the RO hookups.

I had to e-mail one company in order to get the owners manual because they didn't have my model listed.

This is the website that I used, and they e-mailed the manuals to me in a pdf format within a couple of days.

I honestly can't say that it tells you how to hook them up, because normally a rainsoft techie will do that for you, but at least it's a start.

Cabot,

Just drop buy hour local HD, Ace or Lowes. They should be able to set you up with what you need and tell you how to do it. Also, to best of my knowledge it is only an RO and doesn't' include DI. It is also a Cellulose membrane (CA) and gets only about 90% removal compared to the 95-98% of of the composite that a TFC provides. See [rodifaq] for the full story.

Stacey,

Their manual better include the Techie as it doesn't have installation instructions. :D

Thanks for the information. I do have the manual and the techie would cost more than a new unit! I will check out the link. I might be better of to go with a different unit.

Okay,

Mine is hooked up underneath my kitchen sink. I am not able to take any pictures to show you as my camera is at work.

If you would like I can take those pictures tomorrow and post them after I get off work. OR if you let me know before 5 cst, I can call hubby and see if he can remember to bring it home this evening. ;)

Thanks Stacy, that would be great. I am planning to mount mine under the kitchen sink as well. My understanding is that you can hook it up when you get ready to use it. Is that how yours is? A visual before a go to Home Depot would be really great!

you can do it that way. just get a sink adaptor, then when you want to use it just screw on the adaptor. you can use the drain for the waste water as well. just store it full of water. use some on/off valves on each end to close off the lines. that will keep the water in the system.

Okay, these are not the greatest photo's, but hopefully you will understand what they mean.

In this first photo it shows where the blue line is tee'd into the water line that also goes to the faucet. (It is the blue hoses and one black one that you need to be watching) That blue hose goes into the top of the first chamber.

This second photo shows where that Tee'd blue hose enters the first chamber.

This 3rd and 4th photo shows a shot of the second chamber. The blue hose that is hooked to the 2nd chamber is Tee'd into the drain pipe. The black hose goes into the storage container.

This last photo is of the 3rd chamber and that blue line is connected to the RO little spigot where you fill your glass with water next to the actual kitchen faucet.

I hope that you can make sense of these photos. If you need any others just let me know. I will see what I can do.

Thank you for the pictures. That looks like the one I have. I will be installing the filter in a month or so. Wish me luck!
