OK, I'll miss something in this, so please forgive me - we are on the noob forum....I've read enough forums searching for clues that I know us noobs always miss something, so I'll do my best.
Tank Setup:
About 18 months old (including cycle)
105G (400L)
3x aquaray LED's
2x wavemakers (a WP40 and a similar spec'd jebao after my first WP40 died)
~50 pounds (25kg) of live rock
Sump is basic
Sponges on the inflow to the sump
bioballs
Tunze 9410 skimmer (rated to 1000L)
Dupla GFO reactor (very new)
Water Parameters (from yesterday using red sea)
KH: 9.2
Ca: 440
Mg: 1240
Salinity: 35 psu
NO3: 14
PO4: 0.4
Livestock (time in tank)
Fiji Foxface (1yr)
Blue Tang (1yr)
Yellow Tang (1yr)
Flame Angle (1yr)
Small Clown (1yr)
Lawnmower Blenny (2 wks)
Small Clown (1 week)
6x damsels (1 week)
Corals I just put in in the last week (except the darn xenia, which even I couldn't kill.....they have been in for a year)
Torch x2
Hammer x2
plus, 2 weeks ago I added a elegance, which has been doing AWESOME - until today, about 6-7 inches in diameter (apologies to flipping between metric and imperial, not sure what is 'standard' here)
Issue:
OK, so I neglected my tank for a few months, and it crashed. I got my LFS team to come over and do a 'reset' on the tank, 60% water change, scrub off algae, redo the electrics etc etc. At this point NO3 and and PO4 are unreadable - off the charts.
I spent 3 weeks doing 3-4x 20-30% water changes per week, got my NO3 and PO4 readable again (still high). Thursday last week (5 days ago) I had PO4 at ~3 and NO3 at ~16. I purchased a GFO reactor to kick back the PO4, and I'd already started vodka dosing at that point to reduce NO3.
So, in 5 days my PO4 has dropped from an extremely high 3 to a very high 0.4, and 2 corals (my elegance and a mushroom that has I've had for over a year) have just crashed. Elegance looks a bit brown and has gone receded, the mushroom has big, brown mass dangling off (about 1.5 inches worth) and looks like crap
Is this likely to the rapid PO4 drop? What else should I look out for? I did increase the bio-load in a big way in the last 2 weeks, could it be that? Everything is measuring OK.....
OK RC, what did I miss?
BIG thanks in advance for any and all advice.
