Raptor's 30 gal. Rimless build

I picked up a used JBJ 30 gal. rimless (tank only) today at a great price. I've seen the reviews on the stands, and have read that they are a P.O.C. I'll be on the lookout for a stand and lighting soon. This thing is going to be nice, especially since it will be a step up from my 9 gal. nano.

Thanks. I thought about sea horses, but I don't want to get so involved in making sure the water stays cooler than it would normally be. My 125 is a mixed reef already. I would like some pearly jawfish, so whatever I could work around that concept.

I ordered the blue/white light. Now to find a stand.
I have this dresser that the 9 gal sat on. The thing is built like a tank, pretty solid. I'm wondering what the tank would weigh once it was full. It would put the tank at eye viewing level, Hmmm......

The 30g tank with water and sand will most likely about 280lb+ the 40 or so pounds of the tank. Saltwater is about 8lbs a gallonx 30 = 240lbs, but the rock and sand will be more dense therefore wighing more but also displacing the water. That looks more than capable of handleing it, but I would make sure it is secured to the wall as it will quickly become top heavy.

Received my LED lamp today, can't wait to set this hing up.

Now, I need a stand. I've been looking for something like this:

Back from vacation and ready to get this project going. I'm still working on a stand but believe I should have one in the next few days. I left the foam inserts for the filters in the sump of my 125 gal Dt's sump for the past few weeks. I think that this along with some seeded sand from my DT will help give me a head start.

If you're talking about the light unit that I ordered, I'll post some up tomorrow. Everything is still dry till I get the stand.

I'm also contemplating whether I want to incorporate a sump into this build or not. If I don't want to drill, I could use an overflow box right? I haven't used one before but I have a vague idea of how it works.

I picked up my stand today, (Thanks FB! ) and just had time to put the tank on top before I had to get some sleep. I decided to just go with the JBJ stand even though the reviews weren't all that positive. I think it looks good, I was just looking for something besides black. Moving on, I'll be rinsing and setting up the tank this weekend. I also decided to go sumpless and just keep it simple.

I haven't forgotten about the LED pics.

Alright, so today I continued with the light portion of the build. I bent a section of 3/4 EMT conduit, capped the top end and used a pvc T as the base to rest on the ground.

Next, I painted it a flat black, let it dry, attached it to the back of the stand with conduit hangers and attached the hook for the light.

Last, I hung the light, leveled it and zip tied the cords for a clean look.

I picked up some rock yesterday and started working with it today. I've had this idea of shelves and wanted to try it out. I used pvc pipe to attach the shelves and it seems very sturdy.

After it was dry, I set it in the tank and added the sand and water. I had to mix up about 10 more gallons so I don't have a final picture yet.

Interesting, I see what you mean. I can see them on my phone and tablet but when I try them from a computer away from home, they don't show up. ?????????
