Rasta Zoanthids

How well do these do? Do they melt randomly like some of the nicer zoanthids? How is growth? Thank you in advance.

Mine do great. Started with one a year ago I now have 2. JK. They are small polyps, they are very slow growers in my tank, but are very hardy. I have fragged them and either sold them or traded them and they all have done great. They are one of my favorites.

Imo, any zoa can randomly melt. And in large part, growth will depend heavily on your water perameters as well as lighting, and flow.

I agree, any can melt, but something like darth mauls are going to melt more often than something like eagle eyes or radioactive dragon eyes.

True. like the big "Darth maul melt scare" just keep your water chem in check and your good to go. have both and thier doing great.

I have Darth Mauls and they do great too! Oddly enough my eclipses were the ones to melt for no reason. They at first grew like crazy.

What kind of growth are you seeing with these? My water is always stable and my lighting is an Aquactinics Constellation over a 75.

I am assuming you mean the rastas. I see about 1 polyp a month. I have several frags in different spots in my tank to see if they grow any better in one area vs another and they do not in my tank. I have the suntek t5 lighting system with 6 lights over a 90g. Works great!

I dont mind "slow growers" because thats one of the best parts of this hobby watching coral/zoas grow (to me at least) but the size of the rastas.. small as hell lol..

bringin back the thred ! I am getting some rastas in a week, just wondering how much light they like ? high or low, aswell as flow. I have a 12" high 80G frag tank now with 8bulb T5HO. SO EXCITED FOR THEM !

Thanks :)

i thought mine were melting, until I checked in the middle of the night with a flashlight and saw an emerald crab feasting. He now lives happily in the fuge with plenty of algae to munch.

Try feed the polyp tiny amounts of coral food once a week and make sure flow/light and maintenance is in check. Stability...

lol, they can be slow growers but as grandis pointed out feed micro foods, powders and liquid coral food will do wonders, you can feed once a week and your whole tank will benifit

Here's some I recently picked up from sexy corals

Yes, they will use the extra energy to reproduce/grow.
Also, depending on the food you offer, the colors will be improved.

Target feed them once a week small amounts of dry coral food. Turn off the pumps and make sure the fishes won't get on the zoas' food. If you feed at night, the polyps are most of the time extended and fishes aren't as active (unless you have some nocturnal species, of course).
Target feeding helps to maintain water quality, once the food aren't all over the system and goes directly to it's destiny!!

Please search for threads about target feeding the zoas for more info...
Good luck!

Grandis.
