Rate Your Vortech Experience

2.7, mine are 2 months and already i have rust on magnets, i called their warranty department and 2 weeks later still no replacements, i received an email about 5 days ago telling me they where waiting for them to come in (since they did not have them in stock, probably) anyways still 5 days have passed and nothing, i would not recommend these expensive little toys

The good news is they offer probably the best customer service I have seen. The bad news is it is necessary all too frequently. Great technology and very forward thinking idea. However, IME, too many quality issues.

i would give vortec a score 1 out of 5. Mine would squek occasionally even with the rubber plugs in the correct holes. Also every once in awhile it would hang up and fall onto the sand bed even and it was set to correct glass thickness...I eventually traded it for a tunze wavebox and pair of 6101's (rate them 5 out of 5)

this is a really helpful thread...

i've been thinking about uprgrading to a vortech and replacing my hydor koralias but now im not so sure...

I have 4 on my 180 with 2 battery backup units. I've not had any problems. They provide great flow.

I have one that is about 6 months old and it works great. It is not loud at all. And they are not kidding about the undertow they create. I like them so much I ordered another one yesterday so I will have 2 on my 110. 5 out 5.

I've bought 3 over the last year and am real happy with them. I've had to return 2 of them for service, but they got me new units out within a week. The wireless drivers are great.

that is another thing how are these wireless drivers......you cant remotely turn them down like they showed in houston macna...at least my tunzes i can remotely turn down

I have not had a single problem with mine - I bought it very slightly used about 6 months ago. (It seems like if you luck out and get a good one, you're golden, but if not, then you could have the sorts of issues described here and elsewhere.) Mine is not noisy, either, and I can only hear it at all when my lights (along with their fans) are off. However, my tank is mainly softy and LPS, so I only have one votech on my 115, and it is only cranked up to about 2/3 of top speed.

I'll 2nd that!!!

I`ve had mine for 6 Months just sent it in to replace ceramic bearing working great again. They fixed and had it back within a week! I give it a 4 I would buy another. Purchased at the Hidden Reef on 20% off everything day. (saved a bunch of $)
Thanks Mark

ive only had mine for a couple of days so i can't speak of durability, but as for flow, size and sound....it's great! when my lights are on i can't hear it all, when off a slight whurring noise, but not much. flow....amazing! huge, wide swath of flow moving huge amounts of water. in my 70 i can't turn it up all the way, but i do every now and then just to stir the tank up.

Plus the whole replacing parts every year because of rust is a turn off.

This is the single-biggest factor that finally pushed me torward the Tunze 6101.

I might add that I have never owned a Vortech, but I have watched them since they came out, and have simply read too many "issue" threads in the EcoTech Marine forum to feel comfortable parting with $420 to get one of these pumps. I do believe that since the Vortech is so new to the market, it will most certainly get better. Once the known "startup / maintenance" issues are resolved (ie. rusting magnet, noise, wet end problems, etc)..., I will definetly pick one up!

Tim and his gang seem to be really responsive to Vortech-related problems. Good Customer Service goes a LONG WAY!

(Roger and his team are also very much on top of the Tunze related issues)

No rust issues with mine. I have two Vortechs and two Tunze and love both of them but I find cleaning the Vortechs a lot easier.
