Rattling 6095 after cleaning

I cleaned my 6095 Tunzes for the first time in about 9 months a couple of weeks ago. To clean it I pulled them out of the tank and ran them in a weak vinegar solution for an hour then scrubbed with a toothbrush. Then I took the screen off and pulled out the propeller and cleaned out the well with a brush and put it all back together.

Now one of the two powerheads makes a rattling noise when it runs. Worse at higher speed. Is it possible that I missed a part somehow or didn't get it together right? It seemed really simple with basically just three parts, motor body with pin to center the propeller magnet, propeller with magnet attached, and screen on the front.

By the way, after the cleaning I had to turn down my controller because they were way stronger and started moving the sand around for the first time, heh.

Possibilities would be-

The disk 6055.740 fell out.

The pump just has some air in it and after a couple days it will be fine.

Debris and calcium build up on the shaft widened the hole in the magnet center so it can wobble.

It is also possible the shaft may have been bent slightly if the brush was a very tight fit, within reason this will realign with use.

Thanks, I didn't notice or look for the bushing, but that may have happened. I will check it out. I had thought maybe a collonista snail got in there somehow. I'll also try to see if I bent it with my toothbrush.

Roger is a genius!

I looked at the sand under the powerhead and saw this:

Now, where does it go? At the bottom of the impeller magnet around the shaft, I assume? One side is more finished than the other. Does the nicer side face the magnet?

It looks badly deformed, you should have the parts as shown. The black disk fits inside the silicon cup. The black disk faces the propeller assembly and the blue cup faces the bottom of the pump. What you show looks like the disk fused to the bottom of the impeller and was partially melted due to the heat from friction, I would likely replace the disk and the drive unit (impeller).

One side was deformed, the other was nice looking. I ended up finding the blue silicone part too. It was inside the powerhead blown against the inside of the screen. I put the deformed side towards the blue silicone and pushed it down on the shaft and put it all together. It is nice and quiet now. Thanks for telling me what to look for.

Good news, the deformation would indicate it was stuck at some point to the drive unit by calcium and a lot of heat from friction was generated.

Roger, after running it for a day or two, I realize it doesn't rattle, but it is still louder than it's companion pump when it oscillates up and down. The companion pump is totally silent at all speeds, which is a huge selling point for Tunze over competitors, but this one isn't silent anymore.

Placing my order from tunze.com tonight for those parts you listed above, thanks.

Silence!

Got it today and put it in. Took 30 seconds, and it's super quiet. I swear the one I removed didn't look that worn, but you were dead on about what would fix it. Thanks.
