I have a blue spotted stingray in my reef. Its a 6ft by 2ft by 2.5ft so eventually he may have to be rehomed. Ive had him for 6 months now 
When I say hes in a reef its not really got that much in the way of corals etc. All rockwork is right at the back of the tank to give him as much sand room as poss & that rockwork is there to form caves for him to go in.
Hes in with all the usual creanup crew, shrimps crabs snails etc & hasnt given them a second glance. Other tankmates include a lionfish, tangs, clowns, angel, wrasse, chromis etc etc. The angel had a nip of his tail when he first went in but apart from that no problems. Obviously with such big fish Ive had to spend out on good filtration which is normally for a tank twice the size. Ive also invested in a nitrate reactor to cope with the high nitrates that are produced.
Lastly I ought to just to say that I dont know how 'normal' my sucess is. Hope this helps.
