RBTA Anemone Extension

When my RBTA was introduced to my tank (2 wks. after splitting) it had the typical bulbous tips as usually seen in pictures. Since, I have added a GSM Clown that hosts in the anemone. For the last several weeks I have noticed the the anemone has really extended its tenticles and thet they no longer have the spherical look. All water parameters have been constant and I assume it is getting enough light given that it has not moved since introduced to the tank. Any explanations?

there are many theories about why BTAs extend their tentacles or "bulb" them up, I'm not sure if anyone really knows. One explanation, which seems to make sense to me, is that an anemone extending its tentacles is doing so in an effort to catch more food... i.e. it's hungry.

Do you feed you BTA silversides, or misis shrimp, or other supplemental feedings in addition to the lighting that you provide it? If not, try tossing it some meaty foods once a week, more if it will take it, and see if it re-forms its bubble tips.

Caveat: I'm not positive that this would work, and for all I know you already feed it meaty foods and it's still got the long tentacles. This is just a theory, food for thought :)

That is what I thought too. I have concluded that it cannot be the only reason bc I have been feeding roughly 3 krill (1 fed, 1-2 clown brings back) per weekfor the last two weeks and have seen no change in the Anems behavior.
