RBTA help?

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
Ok full story but short version :)

I have a 65 gal SPS dom tank with near 100 different corals. I bought a 120gal tank that had 11 rbta in them. I sold 10 and kept 1 for my self. I have always thought that they sting. when I removed them from the tank to sell I had them in my hand no sting. do they sting coral sps?

I want to keep the one that I have saved for my self but I don't want to have it kill my sps. they are mostly frags so if it did sting part of a coral it may not live. will it still them?

I know it may move and when it gets happy it will stay where it is for a while but when it is roaming around the tank to get happy after adding all my rock I don't want it to kill all my sps. that is just not worth it. what do you think? here is a pic of it so you know exacly what kind it is.

I have 15+ rbta that started from 1! I have them in a dedicated tank now. When they grow and split they continuously look for new real estate and they do not care who their neighbor is. When I handle rbtas they feel sticky to me but don't be fooled they definitely can and will sting other coral. The only coral on my tank rbta could not kill was pulsing zenia. That one rbta you may keep can turn into many. I am making that judgement based on the fact that there where 11 in the 120 when you got it. If you are keeping a predominately sps tank you may want to reconsider because of the possibility of it splitting into multiple anemones and taking walks to find new spots in your tank.
However I have friends who have luck with Rbtas that get extremely large and become a center piece and stay put.

That is a beautiful specimen by the way. Ecvernon is right, sps are more sensitive than say xenia, so they would not fare well against a BTA. And the stickiness is the stinging...some people are allergic to the nemotocysts that are fired when the sting so take care. Always a good idea to worj with tongs or gloves while in your tank.

I have an RBTA in my 120 gal, predominately SPS tank. I keep all the corals away from the nem as it will kill anything it touches. Once they settle in, they rarely move, so just try and isolate the nem.
