RBTA...I want this baby to bubble

Okay, I have read numerous papers and have yet to get any consistent answer to what makes BTA's bubble. I have a RBTA that has been in my care almost 2 years. When I bought it it was bubble city. now it is unsually not, every once in a while when the lights first come on it acts like it wants to but never does. It stays in the place it is at, it is near the bottom of the tank on rock under 7 watts per gallon of 10k MH's. It has a clown that hosts in it and so I no longer feed it, the clown just moves food back out anyway when I try. It is very healthy, and has spawned in the past. It has good flow but it is from a rotating powerhead so it doesn't get non stop blasting.

any ideas on how to get this bad boy bubbling again? I love the look of them. any ideas excepted: food, more light, less light, different light, different flow, another BTA so that the clown is not always constantly hosting in just one anemone, anything. I just love the look of the bubbles. thanks

I have a tank full of these and they all lost their bubble. Once I got rid of the clowns and they all bubbled back up again. I am sure there are plenty of reefers out there with bubbling RBTA's and clown fish but by chance that was the change that caused them to bubble back up in my case.

My RBTA has lost it's bubbles, and I am not sure why. It had some when I first got it (it was a clone from another reefer). I suppose when my black ocellaris pair accepted it as a host it began to loose them.

Nobody knows what makes them bubble. My theory is, it's a combination of water chemistry, lighting, and neutrition. Also, in my experience, little ones have bubbles more often than large mature ones.

Id say the irritaion of the clown fish rubbing against the tentacles of the anemones. Sort of disinflating? there are tons of people who have awesome MH lighting feed heavy protein foods and still no bubbles.

It is so weird!!!!!!!!

Yeah, me being one of them

My BTA only part bubbles. Intresetingly enough it is the part closest to the MH (and it dose not host any clowns).

I have an rbta under t5's- actually I have two now since it split this week. It doubled in size since I got it about three months ago.

A lot of t5 owners have bta since they are more light forgiving. Mine bubble up about half the time.

hey, this thread came back to life, weird, so anyone have any new info on how to get these to buuble consistantly? I get more bubbles now that I added VHO acintics but not all the time and not really bubbly, just a little.

When I received my RBTA, it bubbled somewhat. It is under a dual 150w DE MH 10k bulbs and 192w of actinic. I feed silversides about 2-4 times a week, but never on consecutive days. The RBTA has easily doubled in size in a few months, and shows no sign of a split. It's tentacles have grown quite long and lack bubbles. So don't do what I am doing if you want bubbles. I actually like it better w/o the bubbles.
