RBTA or BTA?

I was sold a "RBTA" from a LFS who said it was another customer's clone who had split within 2-3 weeks . At $25 I figured it was a great deal and even if it was too good to be true then $25 for a BTA was average. It has remained tanned for awhile. I notice however the very tips look a tiny bit red, especially at night when it retracts the tips look more red and the tentacle a little greenish. Is it an RBTA or just a BTA? I'm hoping it just lost color and will color up. I have a 6x54watt T5 fixture above 60 gallons. The nem is 9-10" from the fixture.

I know pictures will be requested...very soon to follow.

Hard to say, there are many variations in their coloring. Many bta's have pink, purple or red tips. Bta's in general can be any combination of red and green. For a roses I would expect to see the price double, maybe triple what you paid. I can't say how good a deal you got withour seeing it though, many found at LFS's can be in poor health, bleached , starving etc. Post a photo, you'll get plenty plenty of opinions.

I have to say bta, definately more green. Very nice though, I like the hint of rose in it. How long have you had it? It is not unheard of for these to color up, may deepen dramatically and then who knows, all depends on the lighting. I say you got yourself a nice healthy anemone aside form the color, and that is the mosy important factor.

3.5 inches across and only mysis shrimp so far...I was going to start buying silversides. I hear some people don't feed at all.

fwiw I never feed my rbta my clowns do once in awhile. I would guess with good lighting and good water that guy will color up nicely. also mine has tiny bits of green but its clearly an RBTA. I think you have a good shot at this one being Rose.

That's right, I have gotten into heated discussions over this issue. I prefer to feed. I feed a couple times a week, mysis (the large variety) krill, fresh/frozen shrimp. Mine have spit out silversides so I don't try it anymore.

Thanks Arati for keeping hope alive...lol. I have really good water quality...currently keeping several SPS frags that are growing nicely. I have broken the same monti twice and all three continue to grow quickly as well as another monti and a couple of acro frags. Is 5.4 watts per gallon enough light? Is there a certain bulb combination that's best for the nem?

I can't wait to get my moni frag

I can't wait to get my moni frag

I have 7.8 watts per gal and i fed my anemone just frozen shrimp from groc store. Not sure if thats the perfect food but i soaked last ones in selcon, and he didn't want it at first. I think b/c i fed him one then soaked some in selcon and at first him acted like he knew it was diff. Then he finished off the cup of shrimp.

It looks more like a GBTA to me. I do see hints of red pigment, so maybe it will turn out that way, but for now I'd call it a GBTA. Whichever the case, it looks healthy and will likely do well for you. I've read posts also where folks do not target feed at all. I personally prefer to target feed 2 or 3 times per week.

As an aside, Lmecher, where do you get the large mysis? I saw an ad somewhere that mentioned large mysis, I can't remember where it was. And how large is large? The mysis I feed my fish are maybe 1/2 inch long. Are they noticeably larger than that?

I got the last flat at Pet Land Aqurium Adventure but I have found them at other LFS in the area. Hold on I will show you, they remind me of krill, For my fish I use a mortar and pestal to smash them, I can feed the fish and the anemones, works for me.

I broke the tail off, darn. They are about an inch long or so and pretty moist and meaty, that is compared to krill which are dry inside.

Ok, that did look like krill, you won't like this photo, blurry but I had fed the anemones the krill before checking my photos. Here is the mysis and krill side by side. Krill are pinker.

I've got both. RBTA & GBTA. Your's is definately green, which will still have pink tenticles.

And absolutely feed them... Either Silver Sides or Sand Eels a few times a week.

Thank you Lmecher for the info., I will look for them. I'm always looking for something new to add variety to my anemones diet.
