RBTA question

a friend gave me a RBTA and while it is my first anemone i do know what to feed it but im wondering if there is any way to get it to stop moving around my tank and stay in one location? its stun another coral and im worried i might have problems with more casualties.

thanks for any help

Nope, you can't stop it from moving. You can, however, do things to make it uncomfortable in a particular area. Point a powerhead at it and it will move. Ultimately, it's going to find the place it likes and stop moving, so your best bet will be to move things as he gets too near until he finally settles down. And make sure to cover your powerheads with screening for awhile or he might get sucked up and mushed before he settles down.

+1 to the above

RBTAs can be bad for moving around a lot until they find that one little spot that suits them.

What size tank do you have, and what lights are you using? If a anemone moves around all the time, its searching for a suitable place. But if your tank can't support one it will continue to move until it dies. When I put my rbta in my tank it moved twice and has never moved. I guess I was a lucky one

You've got enough light with a 4-t5 on a 75 if the bulbs are newer versus older. If you have stock bulbs in a lesser-priced fixture you might conside upgrading the bulbs to ATI. How old is your tank? Most everyone agrees 6 months is a minimum to let everything settle in regarding water parameters if all else is ok. If it's less than that it may be difficult to keep him happy. He'll move around. He'll hide under rocks. He'll shrivel up and inflate and he will move a lot until he finds that sweet spot to his liking. Feed him very small pieces of silversides, mysis, or even chopped, store-bought, raw shrimp. I keep several fresh shrimp separated and frozen for future thawing, chopping, and feeding to my rbtas. They seem to like the raw shrimp best in my tank. You'll get mixed reviews on how often to feed him, but I've found that a small piece once per week does well as he'll make most of his food from the light he receives.

Good Luck.

I had sort of the same scenario. I bought a GBTA 3 months ago. It roamed around my tank for a month before it finally settled down and found its spot. Every time it would stay put for a day and then move. But its been in the same spot for over 2 months now and looks healthy. I also feed it a small shrimp every week or two. It loves em. They just seem to roam until they've found that special spot.

Once my rbta settled it, I feed it silversides about 3 times per week just to keep it happy. Once it stays there and doesn't move I feed it 1 per week.

Mine finally settled into a rock about 5" below an MP40 (covered) - high flow, bright light and 12" from the surface. He's been there 3 months in the 4 months he's been in the tank. I also feed once a week, raw shrimp or SS.

RBTA's are really cool!!
