RBTA tentacles are shrinking...!!!!

i've had this rose for two months now... i got it pretty bleached, and now it's been getting it's gorgeous color back...

recently i noticed that on one side the tentacles were shrinking and looking kind of fail...

the latest change was my bulb...

i went from a 250w 14,000k SE bulb to a new 10,000K and i don't have any actnics at the moment...

so today he was still looking pretty fail/aids, so i moved him the the middle of the tank where there isn't any direct light hitting him (damned center brace!...) in a cave kind of... my other GBTA moved but is still exposed to the light after i changed the bulb...


so what could this be... the only thing that came out high or out of the ordinary was my calcium level... it's at 630... i need to lower it down somehow...

so what should i do... i didn't find any copper or other metals in my tank water... so is it the light...?

Firstly I would not have moved it, if the light is irritating it, it will move on it's own. How long has it been looking this way? What do you mean fail/aids? a typo? I would do a full battery of tests, you don't know until you test. To lower your calcium I'd say a large water change. How often do you do water changes? How'd your calcium get so high, do you add? How is your other bta acting? There are so many variables that are unknown it is impossible to make a guess. How about a picture. Give more specifics if you want to get more opinions. Sorry, I really want to help but without more information I can't.

The lights may have bothered it but it would move if it wanted to. I think all anemones are temermental. I have three BTA's (1 is a beautiful Rose). The rose (in my nano) will probably split sometime in the future, it is huge. My purple colored BTA (in my 125) split about 3 months ago and my peach colored BTA (best way to describe the color) in my 125 is shrinking. Same water, same light, same food etc., but I don't think it is going to make it. I have it about the same amount of time as the others it just isn't growing like the others. Anyway needless to say I don't know why some make it and some don't. I have a Sebae anemone (125) and it is doing very well also. Good luck.

Are the sebae and bta in the same tank? If so apolathy, chemical warfare can kill them, not right away but in time. Maybe remove the bta into one of your other tanks. It is not advised to mix species in the same tank. But you are right about some for no aparent reason just decline. I hope you can save yours though. : )

okay... calcium is high because i guess kalkwasser overdose... my water evaporates fast, and it's on the ATO system... so i might have to stop the kalk for a wile...

all my water params are fine... i've been testing since the first day it looked irritaded... it's been like this for a week now... or it will be a week tomorrow...

my other Gbta is fine... but it doesn't get direct light and it never did even with the older bulb...

i feed all of my nems... when they are hungry their tentacles get long and stringy... after i feed them they bubble up completely... but since it's done this it doesn't accept any foods... i give it silversides and shrimp...

i also moved it because a LFS told me that a bristle worm could be stinging it... so i moved it and left a bristle worm trap... see if i catch anything...

also... this rbta hasn't moved since i got it... it stayed esacly where it landed... so i moved it...

i might move back to my LFS... i don't know what should do... what do you guys think...??

i'll try to get a picture tomorrow for sure... i haven't had time to scrape the algae off the front plane of the tank...

it looked better this morning... but my clowns were all up in it... since it's closer to thier area...



i shouldn't of moved him that close to them... fail...





oh, and fail/aids is just an exression we use in another forum... it's like saying fail, or failure... but with some aids... since both of them are bad things... you know... it's like fayt, teh fay and other e-slang words...

but still... after closer inspection... it still looks the same... maybe worst... i think it's not going to make it... so i'm going to take it back to my LFS to see what he says...

I just can't see it well enough in the picture. I didn't ask before sorry, how long has your tank been set up? Your rockwork looks like not a lot of growth.

9 months now... going on ten... that's a rock that remained in the back of the tank... i just got a new huge rock full of mushrooms and i had to move some rocks around... so now that ugly rock is the middle of my tank...

i just have two months with this RBTA... my other GBTA i've had it since my tank was two months old... i know, i know... but my tank never cycled and all of the rock came from a mature tank... along with refugium...

the GTBA ate a whole shrimp today... nothing is wrong with him... nothing is wrong with anything else... even my SPS looks better than ever... man... i don't know what is wrong with it...

You know sometimes when we get anemones form a LFS they are damaged, sometimes it is not even apparent, could be from rough handeling or previous conditions etc. They can linger for a long time declining slowly until they finally die. I know how you feel I lost my first one. Just keep an eye on it and remove it immediately if you see it breaking down, you could loose everything and that would be tragic. Wish I could do more.
